Becoming a Trustee

The life and success of any charity is very dependent upon the work of it’s CEO, staff, volunteers and its trustees.

Ideally, there should be regular turnover of trustees so as to ensure refreshment of ideas and working practices on the trustee board. As such, we are always on the look-out for people interested in becoming a trustee and able to bring their own expertise and experience to the charity.

So, what does a trustee do?

Trustees of a charity are there to take an overview of the strategy and direction of the charity and to make appropriate suggestions at high level.  They do not run the charity – that is the job of the CEO and the staff.  Trustees do however have the responsibility of ensuring that the charity is operating within set parameters and in accordance with the law.

Trustee decisions are made at Trustee Board Meetings at which each trustee contributes to and accords with collective responsibility.

It is unlikely and unusual for trustees to incur personal or collective liability provided that they exercise their function with reasonably diligence and reasonable care.

The Trustees of The People Hive meet approximately 8 to 10 times in each year, typically for about 2 hours.

To be a Trustee of The People Hive, which is a dynamic and continually developing charity, is a stimulating and rewarding experience.
