Our Trustees

Chair of Trustees: Hugh Evans
Hugh’s career has seen him travel widely; frequently to some of the more remote and troubled parts of the world! As a career Army officer he has leadership and managerial experience and his recent roles have been primarily focused on engagement and international policy. He hopes to be able to bring a different perspective and a questioning approach to his role as Trustee; to help the People Hive thrive and develop.
He lives in Hampton with his wife, and two daughters when they are not at university or working, and having had a somewhat nomadic lifestyle is now adamant that he is putting down roots. Away from work he enjoys cycling, Canadian canoeing and photography.

Mark Albrow
Mark has been a Trustee since November 2013 (originally Richmond Homes and Lifestyle Trust then RHLT now The People Hive). He retired in 2011 after 37 years on the international trading side of the oil industry and brings in-depth knowledge and experience of business processes and business relationships. Mark is also chair of our Finance sub-committee.
He is married with two grown up children and has a brother in law with a learning disability. He is a keen guitarist and has performed with one of his bands at our Monday Pub Nights at The Cabbage Patch in Twickenham.

Bernadette Jansen
Bernadette’s varied career has given her experience in teaching, retail, human resource management, employment law, and data systems. It gives her great pleasure to use her experience to support The People Hive.
She started as a volunteer helping with activities, then became involved with the gallery, and finally also joined the Trustee Board. She especially enjoys the interaction with The People Hive family: the lovely clients, the great members of staff, the enthusiastic volunteers, the amazing artists and the dedicated trustees.

Patrick Hehir
Patrick has worked in the City of London for more than 20 years. He is currently the Director of Client Services for a global Investment Management Company. Patrick joined the Board of The People Hive at the start of 2021 and is enjoying working with a dynamic, energetic charity supporting the local community.
He lives with his husband in Twickenham and enjoys travelling, the theatre and supporting the Mighty Quins!.

Ellen van Keulen
Ellen is a believer in the power of giving back and making a difference in the community. With a background in technology, and having previously worked at both large internationals and small startups in a variety of technical roles, she has been using her skills in various charitable initiatives and non-profit organizations since 2020. She is thrilled to be a part of such a strong trustee board at The People Hive and is excited to bring her passion for technology, philanthropy, and community service to the table.
Away from the computer, Ellen can be found out with her Hungarian Vizsla in one of the borough’s many beautiful parks, running with Run Talk Run Twickenham or out cycling with St Margarets Cycling Club.

Bee McManus
After a few years away from her hometown of Twickenham, Bee decided to move back in 2022; with a keen eye to immerse in local community life.
With a background in research and strategy, as well as teaching, Bee felt that she could contribute a lot to The People Hive. Luckily, Sam and the board agreed and as of 2025 Bee was welcomed into The People Hive family!
Outside of work, you’re most likely to find Bee running, hiking, trying one of the many restaurants and / or pubs in the area or taking a pub quiz far too seriously!
