Few things make me happier than the work that we do at The People Hive.
The People Hive is our community hub, based in Twickenham. From here we provide a range of activities, training and opportunities for adults with a learning disability, to support their recreation, social integration and personal development.
The current situation with COVID-19 is deeply unsettling for many of us and more so for the many vulnerable adults that we support. That is why The People Hives mission of connecting adults with a learning disability with the community has never been more important.
The past few months have been very challenging for us with staff working from home and others on furlough but we have still achieved many amazing things. Right from the beginning we have remained in touch with our most vulnerable clients; making phone calls and doing socially distanced visits. We sent out quizzes and activity equipment so that people had things to do at home and feel a connection with the outside world.
As the lockdown has eased we have done our best to connect people by running outdoor activities and walks for people.
As a very small charity we do not receive any government or local authority funding nor do we have large reserves and we know that fundraising will become even more of a challenge this year due to the virus. Like many other small charities we will struggle to pay core expenses over the coming year which may lead to many smaller organisations and businesses closing their doors.
This is why I am writing to you today …
During the past few months we have not been charging for the work we have been doing. You can help The People Hive’s effort supporting vulnerable adults in the local community by making a contribution towards the work that we do. This will help us support so many people during and after COVID-19.
