The People Hive has always held a very successful weekly book group. Sadly like everything else we had to stop running this during lockdown. Many of our clients were really missing the book group but we couldn’t hold the group inside, so The People Hive team put their heads together and told Susie to get on her bike!
And she did….
And ‘Stories on cycles’ was born, here’s what Susie said,
We held the book group outside at William’s parents (Liz and Bill) house. It was a lovely sunny day and the chairs were set up so that people from different houses were all socially distanced. They even put up an umbrella for shade! William, his parents Liz and Bill, Sam, Anita and Becky and their support staff all came along to join the group.
We read Snow White which everyone loved. We all agreed that hearing familiar stories is a lovely thing to do. We also listened to Johnny Morris tell some funny stories about animals – some of us could even remember when he had a children’s programme a long long time ago! We listened to a funny story about a husband and wife who swapped their roles – they decided in the end it was best to stick with what they knew!
We listened to Danny Kaye sing The Emperor’s New Clothes – everyone laughed about the Emperor doing a parade with no clothes on!
We listened to some calm music at the beginning and end of the session. This was to help us settle down ready to listen to some stories, and then at the end to prepare us for going back to our houses and carrying on with what we usually do.
We will try and run this new group every Tuesday afternoon dependent on the weather!
